Scrap Your Old Memories of Royal Caribbean Ships

Dale McCurdy • Jul 06, 2020
Pullmantur Cruises has announced that three of its cruise ships will be sold for scrap. Pullmantur, partly owned by Royal Caribbean LTD, is headquartered in Spain. Two of the ships were built for Royal Caribbean and one for Celebrity.
Pullmantur Horizon
Horizon, the third in the fleet sailed with 1,828 passengers and was built for Celebrity Cruises in 1990. By April of this year about half of her crew had been reported to be affected by COVID-19.
Pullmantur Monarch
Sister ships Monarch and Sovereign, at about 2,700 guests each, were once state-of-the-art ships for Royal Caribbean. All three ships are reportedly being stripped of anything of value.
Pullmantur Sovereign
This news seems to be an obvious death blow to the cruise line. Zenith (formerly of Celebrity), the fourth ship in the fleet, was removed from service in January. Oddly enough, the cruise line website is still inviting inquiries about cruises beginning in July. Did someone forget to pull the plug?
Please share your memories of these ships in the comments section below.
