Our gang just got back from cruising on Oasis of the Seas and that was just about all the cruising that happened!! Beware that Oasis and her sister ship Allure DO NOT have separate mens and womens saunas or steam rooms. There is only one SHARED facility and to make matters worse, they charge a hefty price to use!! So back to the Liberty for us!!!! I know – I know – but we LOVE our steam and cocktail hour!! And we were not the only ones complaining!

Whats so good about the ‘Liberty’, Does it have a Male steam room or sauna?

Oasis of the Seas – Beware of Adjoining Cabins

We  just returned from a Western Caribbean cruise on RCCL’s New OASIS OF THE SEAS. She is an amazing ship with something for everyone… And while RCCL did a great job on designing her public areas, her designers made a TREMENDOUS mistake on my so called ”Connecting Cabins” 12562 & 12564 on the starboard side. (See pic below) Our cat. D3 connecting balcony cabins are located on deck 12 directly under the cantilevered jacuzzis. For structural reasons they have a steel support wall between the adjoining balconies, instead of the usual glass partion wall/door that ALL other balconies have on the OASIS. Therefore everyone else on the ship could request to have their balconies opened to the cabin next to them, EXCEPT for these advertised “Connecting Cabins”. Does it make sense to anyone, having connecting cabins with the only balconies that are divided by a full steel wall? No, it was just poor planning on the part of ship designers, or a last minute change in design. Specially when the designers could have chosen numerous other pairs of cabins on either side of these steel walls, to make adjoining cabins. This put a huge damper on our plans of enjoying breakfast in the morning together and cocktails in the evening…

Oh! and this is the same situation on the port side cabins on decks 12 & 14, and ALSO on her New sister ship ALLURE OF THE SEAS as well…

I understand from different cabin stewards, that everyone who has booked these cabins complained to deaf ears!

RCCL has brushed me off, and has shown no interest in discussing this matter further with me!

So I suggest you check with RCCL (not your travel agent) before you book “Connecting Cabins”, you may end up being be more “disconnected” to your friends or family than you might expect on RCCL Genisis class ships!!!

Also her cabins and balconies have less square footage, and much less storage space for your clothes than on RCCL Liberty Class ships.

So you better pack light if you’re going on Oasis or Allure!

That is really excellent information!!! Much appreciated. I’m actually a travel agent and you’re right most agents wouldn’t or couldn’t know this information unless they have stayed in this same cabin before….so at least this agent will now know this…Thanks!!! And sorry you had to find out the hard way:(

With a capacity of 5400 people, I find it difficult to believe that we will be the only gay couple on the Oasis of the Seas April 17th.

I’m sure you guys won’t be the only gay couple on the boat. I hope they have a FOD party where you can mix and mingle. If you meet any other ‘family’ on the ship, let them know about MeetMeOnBoard. Also, let us know about your experience on the Oasis. I (we) can’t wait to go on her in the near future!

All there is to know about Oasis of the Seas!

Having just returned from a special 2-night Inaugural sailing aboard the newest and largest cruiseship in the world, Oasis of the Seas, I can try and answer anyone’s questions they may have. This is an amazing ship and words cannot describe it. There is so much to see and do, the ship is a destination in itself. Personally, I wouldn’t care where it cruised to, because I probably would never have a reason to get off it.

I loved the pictures of the Oasis. I agree that it wouldn’t matter where it went to, it would just be great to be on the ship. I bet it can be overwhelming. It’s a vacations destination on its’ own.

I’m also looking forward to your report. My concern is that The Oasis is just way too large – meaning too many people. I’ll be interested in your perspective on this.

We’re leaving Dallas next Wednesday, driving to New Orleans, Orlando and FtL… we’re onboard Oasis from Dec 1-12. Then spending about a week in Orlando before heading back to Dallas…. would love to meet others onboard Oasis, as well as perhaps in Orlando either before or after the cruise!

      Hi FLSPEEDO

So, how did you like the ship? It’s pretty amazing. Just too big. Hate to be on board with 5k+ people and try to get a elevator..

      • Steve Zellers 10:10 am on November 26, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Well I returned from Oasis and am still trying to take it all in. Although this sailing was only for travel agents and invited guests, the estimated total number of passengers was 3500. I understand, each sailing between now and January will not sail full, but will gradually increase in number of passengers until capacity is reached sometime in January. The ship is very well laid out and easy to navigate from one neighborhood to another. Royal Caribbean has created a beautiful ship, and some really unique features. The Zip Line was a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat. Who could ever imagine Zip Lining in the middle of the ocean on a cruiseship! The ship is a destination in itself and I wouldn’t care where the destination was, because you could spend a week onboard and not experience it all, but I sure tried in two days. I have pictures posted on my Facebook fan page so if anyone would like to take a look, look me up there.

I’m looking forward to hearing the feedback from people who went on The Oasis. I think Steve has a point where the ship is the actual destination and not the itinerary. It sounds like there is no need to get off the ship since there is so much to do on board.

Steve, why don’t you consider starting a new tread just about The Oasis of The Sea? The best way to do that is by clicking on the link ‘Add a new post’ under the avatar on the right column. You will be able to add a headline and also photos in that area. Also, members will be able to link to the RSS feeds to stay updated.

Looking forward to seeing your photos

    Oasis: World’s largest ship arrives

    The world's largest cruise ship

    The world's largest cruise ship

I just read a very interesting article in the Miami Herald about the new Oasis of The Seas which recently arrived in Miami. It’s well worth the reading.

I noticed that MeetMeOnBoard has several members who will be cruising her in 2010. I’m anxious to get their reports.

4,000 passengers? ! ! My first reaction is that it is just way to large and too many people but I’d be more than willing to give it a try. I’ll be anxious to read reviews.

You’re WAY under…. the ship carries 5400 at double occupancy, and over 6300 all berths filled… add another 2300 crew. ;-) I expect 6000+ passengers to be aboard with us for the maiden voyages. ;-)

If I thought 4,000 might be too many passengers, between 5,000 – 6,000 makes it that much worse. I’m very interested in what people have to say about this.
