Well I went ahead and booked our next…
Well, I went ahead and booked our next transatlantic ocean voyage… Feb 4-22, 18 days on Carnival Destiny, Miami to Venice, Italy… with ports of call at Malaga, Barcelona, Livorno, and Cittavecchio. With prices starting at $509 plus taxes and port charges for an inside cabin, that’s less than $30 a day! Hell of a deal! Who else wants to go with us on this one?

Turns out that right after we disembark in Venice, “Carnival Destiny” is headed to the shipyard for a massive $155 million, 46-day rebuild… so this will be your last chance to experience this ship “as built”. I wish I could say that the rebuild was going to be an improvement, but comparing the deck plans makes me alarmed about many of the changes that I really don’t think I’m going to like at all (including them screwing with the wonderful sauna and steamroom area that this ship will be losing during the rebuild).
They’re also cutting WAY back on the main showroom (which as built was SPECTACULAR) and also making the dining areas much less open-feeling and spacious, getting rid of numerous public areas (including the piano bar and jazz club, the aft showroom, etc etc). and replacing public areas and lounges with cabins, so the ship (which will then sail as “Carnival Sunshine”) will feel a LOT more crowded.
Turns out hotels in Venice and Paris, and the train from Venice to Paris, will be a lot cheaper than I was expecting, and the hotel in Miami will be more than I was expecting.
